The Mission
Back in 2036, a coalition of nations conceived the idea for an expedition to our nearest neighbour in interstellar space, Alpha Centauri. The Alpha Mission had two aims, scientific exploration and colonisation.
With climate change, environmental degradation and resource depletion threatening our civilization here on Earth, the Mission was seen in some ways as a lifeboat, a means by which our culture could be perpetuated…
The initial participants were Russia, China, Brazil, India and Mexico; but Russia soon withdrew, and Mexico eventually morphed into the North American Axis (or NAX).
São Paulo in Brazil was chosen as Mission headquarters, but staff were drawn from all the participating nations (and beyond). In a somewhat sentimental nod to NASA and to history, English was chosen as the official Mission language…
